Screen Pieces by Timo Ullmann

Presented byTimo Ullmann

In his ongoing "Screen Pieces" series, Timo Ullmann investigates the screen as both medium and message, creating works that challenge our perception of digital interfaces and their role in contemporary art. Today, we're proud to present two new groundbreaking pieces from this series.

New Releases

Greenscreen transforms the familiar chromakey technique into a mesmerizing exploration of constructed nature. Shot in Andalusia during a record-breaking heatwave, this work layers plant footage through an innovative reverse green screen technique, creating an ever-densifying botanical composition. As the piece unfolds, it reveals the artificial nature of our cultivated landscapes, subtly addressing urgent questions about climate change and resource management. Viewers can experience "Greenscreen" at the prestigious CANTONALE exhibition at Museum Franz Gertsch (December 7, 2024 - March 2, 2025).

Splitscreen presents a dramatic interplay between the human body and digital displays. Through a carefully choreographed performance, Ullmann transforms LCD screens into canvases of destruction and creation. As body parts press against screens from within, liquid crystals morph into abstract compositions, accompanied by an immersive binaural soundscape. This powerful work will be featured in AUSWAHL 24 at the Aargauer Kunsthaus (November 16, 2024 - January 5, 2025).

Both pieces exemplify Ullmann's masterful ability to blur the boundaries between physical and virtual spaces, creating works that are both technically innovative and conceptually rich. These new additions to the "Screen Pieces" series continue his exploration of screen-based media while pushing the boundaries of digital art collection.
