We are delighted to present you with the first catalogue on Geoff Davis, one of the pioneers of generative and algorithmic art. Geoff Davis founded the Micro Arts Group in 1984 and was among the first artists to use popular home micro-computers to generate abstract moving graphics. Micro Arts produced several curated sets of art for public distribution, including a story text generator which can be regarded as an early predecessor of ChatGTP.
This catalogue is published in close collaboration with the artist and curated by Georg Bak and it focuses on four new kinetic works from Geoff Davis's MA1 “Abstract Originals” created this year, exclusively for elementum.
"Abstract Originals" developed dynamic ambient visuals from distinct design concepts. There were no graphics primitives in those days; instead, the program created pixels, mathematically constructing each shape displayed on the screen as lines, triangles, blocks, & other shapes.
But also "Micro Arts Grid 88", which is a composition of 88 highlights from the history of Micro Arts Group, which nods to Beeple's “Everydays: the First 5000 Days” image grid which took Geoff Davis four decades to complete.
