The Bacchanal is a picture genre that signifies a generous overflowing life, but also the dangers of uninhibited letting go to pleasure. In this digital collage by the Norwegian artist Trygve Skogrand, the bacchanal is re-evaluated as a mirror of the contemporary world, in a virtual rave where everyone is alone and vulnerable in their own private pleasures. A new guest has just arrived at the party, for now unaware of the surrounding excesses.
Trygve Skogrand (b. 1967) lives and works in Asenfjord, Norway. After originally educating as a Civil Engineer, he has been working as an artist using computers as his artistic tool since the late 1990s. Skogrand's works have been exhibited in Oslo, Trondheim, Malmö, London, Edinburgh and Berlin, and been published as several art books.
