This exclusive work is part of the series #UGDTG by French GIF artist Nicolas Monterrat. The video works of Nicolas take the user on a journey between reality and utopia. What seems unreal at a first glimpse could be a dreamed reality. The play with discrepancy, the incoherence and the unreal is often found in the works of Monterrat. Inspired by his ferry journey to Corsica, Porto Vecchio, the artist wanted to invite the viewer to a journey through space.
Nicolas Monterrat (*1966) is a digital artist who lives and works in Paris, his hometown. Fostering a lifelong love of animation, Monterrat has spent the last 6 years creating GIF-based works that twist reality into surreal, animated images. He often transforms old photographs into fantastical, contemporary, humorous works. Monterrat has stated that GIFs allow him to build an imaginary and positive place in an otherwise bleak world.
